Enhanced Version of Red Dead Redemption Releasing on Modern Systems and Netflix

It’s time to dust off the ol’ six-shooter, because Red Dead Redemption is getting a re-release for modern systems on December 2. The 2010 open-world game, which is set in the final years of the American wild west, is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Android, and iOS.

This updated version will come with some bells and whistles. It will include the zombie-themed DLC Undead Nightmare alongside the bonus content from the Game of the Year Edition. On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S it will have 60 FPS support, enhanced image quality, HDR support, and resolutions up to 4K. As for the Switch 2 version, it will support DLSS, HDR, mouse controls, and 60 FPS at high resolution.

Those who own the game on PS4, Nintendo Switch, or the backwards compatible version on Xbox One will be able to upgrade digitally for free (sorry OGs who own it on Xbox 360 or PS3). Those who played the game on PS4 and the Switch will be able to carry over their save data. The game will be part of the GTA+ Games Library and the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog when it re-releases next month.

Perhaps the most unexpected element of the news is that the game will also be available on iOS and Android with “mobile-friendly control options.” Netflix members will be able to download these versions as part of their subscription—this ties into Netflix’s latest push into gaming with Netflix Games, which offers party games and word games like Sudoku themed after Netflix shows.

With Rockstar Games having delayed Grand Theft Auto 6 yet again, this time until November 2026, the move is likely aimed at appeasing some of the grumbling around this announcement. What it shouldn’t distract from, however, is that Rockstar was recently accused of union-busting after firing over 30 employees who were involved in labor organization efforts. In response, the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB) led protests outside of the company’s offices and filed a legal claim in what they described as a “blatant and ruthless” attempt at undermining workers’ legal right to organize.

Most recently, over 200 Rockstar North staff signed a letter demanding that their fired colleagues be reinstated. Hopefully, the overwhelming condemnation of the move will be enough to get the suits at the top of the company to backtrack. Otherwise, they risk losing the support of the people who have made Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, and more into mega-hits.
