Rob McElhenney and Noah Hawley Might Be Making a Far Cry TV Show For FX

A TV adaptation of the Far Cry series may be in the works over at FX with some big names attached. Ubisoft seems to have accidentally posted a webpage confirming the news (although this link now redirects elsewhere and wasn’t archived on Wayback Machine), which was promptly noticed by users on Reddit (although this post has also since been deleted by the site’s moderators).

As reported by Eurogamer, the webpage indicated that Noah Hawley (Alien: Earth, Fargo) and Rob Mac (formerly Rob McElhenney, of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Mythic Quest, and Welcome to Wrexham fame) will be co-creators on the series. Hawley will reportedly act as showrunner with Mac starring.

The Reddit user who found the webpage posted that the series will be executive produced by Hawley and Mac, alongside Jackie Cohn (Severance) from More Better Productions and Nick Frenkel (Welcome to Wrexham, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia) from 3 Arts Entertainment. Ubisoft Film & Television’s Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill will also produce.

According to the original poster on Reddit, the following quote is from the removed announcement: “This collaboration is really an embarrassment of riches,” says Boykin, who serves as Ubisoft Film & Television head of film and television content. “Far Cry is a psychological tailspin that doesn’t shy away from the darkest and most absurd parts of humanity, which aligns perfectly with FX’s bold and fearless storytelling style.” Another user quoted from the deleted webpage that it will be an anthology series with each season following a different cast of characters.

While Ubisoft hasn’t made an official announcement yet and we’ve been unable to independently verify the contents of the webpage, much of the alleged staff makes some degree of sense; Hawley has a long history with FX, which will be airing his upcoming show Alien: Earth, and he has experience with an anthology format. Meanwhile, Mac clearly has an interest in video games, having starred in, co-written, and co-created Mythic Quest. Additionally, the production staff have largely either worked with Hawley or Mac before, or have worked on previous Ubisoft adaptations. For now, we don’t have a direct confirmation, but it will be interesting to see if the alleged leak is followed up with an official confirmation soon.
