Marvel Rivals’ First PvE Mode Has You Battling Zombies

Just in time for Halloween, Marvel Rivals is getting a new seasonally appropriate mode: Marvel Zombies. Here, you play one of five heroes—Blade, Thor, Jeff the Land Shark, Magik, or The Punisher—and battle waves of undead, all so you can take on Zombie Namor and The Queen of the Dead. It will be the game’s first PvP mode, and it’s coming out next week on October 23. The mode is a tie-in to the recently released animated series Marvel Zombies, which similarly centers on a zombie apocalypse.

In the reveal trailer, we see a team of four battling, you guessed it, zombies. Each of the five available characters has been beefed up with abilities that are specific to this mode: Jeff can charge through enemies while submerged with his Hide and Seek ability, Thor can remain in his powered-up awakened state, Magik has unlimited access to her Darkchild ultimate, Blade gets access to Moon Knight’s Moon Blade ability, and The Punisher can place autonomous turrets.

While rewards associated with the mode haven’t been announced yet, it’s probably fair to guess that some of the recently announced Halloween skins will be involved: as an entirely baseless shot in the dark, I’d pick the Blade skin as the most likely unlockable reward, as he hasn’t had a free skin yet, is coming off a recent big buff, and his new look isn’t quite as flashy as the others.

Rivals recently received its big patch for Season 4.5. On top of balance adjustments, some of which were negatively received like the strange Ultron changes, the update also unleashed Daredevil, who, at first blush, seems really good. He has a robust kit with several powerful melee moves that deal quick burst damage and also grant him bonus health, which helps him survive scraps. He’s relatively fast, tanky, and deals impressive amounts of damage. And maybe most busted? He can see through walls at close distances. He’s proved quite popular so far, and even a week after release, it can be tough to pick him before someone else does.
