Ranma 1/2 Season 2 Gets Romeo And Juliet-Themed Trailer

Ranma 1/2 Season 2 Gets Romeo And Juliet-Themed Trailer

Ranma 1/2’s second season is right around the corner with an October 4 release date on Netflix, and we got an energetic new trailer ahead of its premiere. In it, we see both Ranma and Akane quite literally fighting off their suitors as the pair’s will-they-won’t-they antics take on a more earnest Romeo and Juliet-themed tilt. The trailer also gives us the new season’s opening theme, “Wo ai ni,” performed by Wednesday Campanella.

Additionally, we also got a glimpse of some of the new characters debuting this season, including Ukyo Kuonji (played by Kaori Nazuka), Mousse (Toshihiko Seki), and Cologne (Ako Mayama). As for animation staff, the second season will feature many of the same names, including Kounosuke Uda coming back as director and Kimiko Ueno handling series composition.

The first season of MAPPA’s Ranma 1/2 aired last October and ran for 12 episodes. It made for a delightful martial arts rom-com, as its central pair navigated their feelings for each other and also fought a bunch of people. In particular, this remake benefited from smooth action animation and punchy comedic timing that (mostly) made it easy to forget the age of the source material.

The original Ranma 1/2 manga ran from 1987 to 1996 for 38 volumes. It was written by Rumiko Takahashi, an industry icon who also created several other influential series like InuYasha, Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, and more.

The manga was previously adapted into a 161-episode series that ran from 1989 to 1992, alongside several films and OVAs, adapting around half of the source material. The manga sold a whopping 55 million copies, making it among the highest-selling ever, and when combined with the popularity of the anime, the series is known for helping spread both mediums in the United States.
