Suikoden II Anime Adaptation Coming Out In 2026

The previously announced Suikoden: The Anime just got an official 2026 release window alongside a teaser visual, shown below. The series was revealed this March, and it will be an adaptation of Suikoden II, a beloved 1998 RPG that recently received an HD remake alongside the first game.

As for the anime, it will be handled by Konami Animation, a studio established in 2023 by Konami that has only worked on the short-form series Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Game: The Chronicles, thus far. The staff revealed so far are the director Yuzo Sato (Akagi, Kaiji, Gene of AI) and producer Ryō Hino, a member of the NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan department. The Suikoden has previously received manga and light novel adaptations, but this will be its first anime.

Suikoden II takes place in a fantastical pseudo-historical setting, as the protagonist and his best friend Jowy Atreides find themselves in the middle of a war. The game was initially released to a somewhat mixed response, in part due to the glut of superficially similar RPGs at the time, but has since been reappraised as a classic.

One of the game’s most unique elements is how it allows the player to recruit up to 108 characters, and it will be interesting to see how the anime adaptation attempts to recreate this. An exact episode count hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s probably fair to say it will be hard to cram 100+ party members into the series.

Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars came out on March 6, 2025, and Konami described its sales as “extremely strong.” In total, the series spans five main entries and six spin-offs, with the most recent mainline entry being released in 2006 and the most recent spin-off coming out in 2012. While there is an upcoming free-to-play mobile game, Suikoden STAR LEAP, it will be interesting to see if the recent HD Remaster has done well enough for Konami to consider a new entry in the series on console.
