Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Becomes Highest Grossing Anime Film Of All Time

The latest Demon Slayer film continues its reign of dominance at the box office, and this weekend it became the globally highest-grossing anime film of all time, passing the previous entry in the series, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, for the top spot. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle currently sits at a worldwide gross of $555 million, holding on to the number one spot in the North American box office for its second consecutive weekend. It made roughly $70 million in its opening and is currently at $105 million in the NA box office. In Japan, it recently passed Spirited Away to become the second-highest-grossing film in Japan’s box office, only behind the first film in the series, Mugen Train.

Globally, Infinity Castle is the ninth-highest-grossing film of 2025 worldwide, beating out all three of this year’s MCU films: The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Captain America: Brave New World, and Thunderbolts*. It opened in Japan on July 18, and then in the United States and much of the rest of the world the weekend of September 12.

The film, fully titled Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle – Part 1: Akaza Returns, is only the first in a three-part trilogy which will close out the Demon Slayer anime. The anime currently spans 63 episodes across four seasons, and its manga source material wrapped up in 2020 after 23 volumes. The series follows Tanjiro, an intensely sincere kid who is forced to take up arms against demons (who basically function like vampires) after the tragic loss of his family.
