Trigun Stargaze Gets Release Window, Trailer, and, Most Importantly, Milly Thompson

Late last Friday, Trigun Stargaze got a January 2026 release window alongside a new trailer, key visual, and staff and casting announcements. But the biggest news? This sequel will once again feature Trigun MVP Milly Thompson.

For those unaware, Trigun is a space western manga series that received a classic late ‘90s anime adaptation from Madhouse, running for 26 episodes in 1998. Then, in 2023, studio Orange animated a reimagined adaptation, Trigun Stampede, which went for 13 episodes. Trigun Stargaze is a direct follow-up to Stampede, and Orange has described it as the “final phase” of Trigun Stampede. It will be set 2.5 years after its predecessor.

The follow-up will once again be handled by Orange alongside some of the same staff. Specifically, Masako Sato will be taking over as director, Kazuyuki Fudeyasu is taking over scripts and series composition, and Kouji Tajima is returning as character designer and concept artist.

For those unfamiliar with Trigun, it’s set in a far-flung future where humans fight for survival on a desert world. The story follows Vash the Stampede, a gunslinger and pacifist goofball who has accrued a massive bounty for accidentally leaving destruction in his wake—mostly because of the bad guys who constantly pursue him.

The original Trigun anime is interesting in that it didn’t directly adapt the manga it was based on, mostly because the manga wouldn’t be done for many years. The source material began in 1997 and ran for another decade, while the anime concluded with its own original ending in 1998.

Meanwhile, Trigun Stampede also isn’t a direct adaptation, taking bits and pieces from the rest of the series while putting its own spin on things. It proved a solid follow-up, frequently bolstered by Orange’s great 3D animation but let down by some lackluster turns in its final third. Also, it made the genuinely baffling decision of removing one of the most beloved characters from the original show, the minigun-wielding, gentle giant Milly Thompson. She’s Meryl’s subordinate at the Bernardelli Insurance Society and is defined by her kindness, strength, and also for being like seven feet tall. She rules. Good to have you back, Milly (even if I wish you still had your cool trench coat)!
