Next Nintendo Direct Scheduled For September 12

Nintendo has announced that its next Direct livestream will take place on September 12 at 9 a.m. ET. It will run for roughly 60 minutes and cover upcoming games for both the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.

For context, Directs typically don’t run longer than an hour, so this one will be on the meatier side and will likely offer more details on some of the more anticipated upcoming Switch 2 games. Specifically, many are speculating that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be a focus of the show; it’s currently slated for an unspecified 2025 release, making it fairly likely that we may get a specific date (or another delay). Beyond its existing ESRB classification, the upcoming game also just received another content rating, this time from Brazil’s rating board, indicating it may be quite close. We got hands-on time with Metroid Prime 4 at Gamescom and back in April and enjoyed our time with it, even if what we saw was more action-oriented than the series tends to be.

Beyond this, Kirby Air Riders will likely receive at least a little bit of attention, despite the game already receiving its own dedicated 47-minute Direct and a November 20, 2025 release date. Pokémon Legends: Z-A will almost certainly nab some screentime as well, ahead of its October 16 debut.

Beyond this (no pun intended), it’s more or less anyone’s guess: it’s possible we’ll see a tease for Mario Kart World DLC or maybe even some add-on content for Donkey Kong Bananza. The only other upcoming first-party title from Nintendo that has already been announced is Splatoon Raiders, a series spin-off that will be a Switch 2 exclusive, so it’s very possible we’ll see more of that. And hey, it wouldn’t be surprising if something entirely new got announced, like a Legend of Zelda game (although probably not a Tears of the Kingdom-sized one), something from a neglected series like F-Zero or Earthbound, or perhaps something entirely new.

The Direct will also almost certainly include third-party games as well, including many titles released on non-Nintendo platforms that will be coming to the Switch 2 due to its improved hardware power. For instance, there have been rumors that all six RE Engine Resident Evil games, including the upcoming title, Requiem, are headed for the new console: this would also mean ports of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Village, and the remakes for Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4. Some are also speculating that the Direct could also announce a surprise release of Hades 2 after an extended early access period, but we’re not really sure what makes anybody think that. Regardless, we’ll know more on Friday.
