The demo for the upcoming puzzle game will be available to play on PlayStation 5 and Steam. In addition to a single player mode with three stages, the demo also includes the game’s never-before-seen cross-platform multiplayer mode Burst Battle Mode. It will be available for one week from August 26 to September 3 11:59 pm local time.
Lumines Arise is an anticipated “reinvention,” as Enhance puts it, of the classic game Lumines. The upcoming game will have players experience over 35 “synesthetic sensory” stages where they place falling 2×2 blocks of two colors with the goal of creating squares of a singular color. Placing blocks also trigger visuals synced to the game’s soundtrack. As for PlayStation 5 pre-orders, players can get the standard and digital deluxe editions today for $39.99 USD and $44.99 respectively. The digital deluxe edition will include Avatars and name plates from other game series, including PlayStation’s recent Astro Bot and previous Enhance games. PS Plus members get an exclusive 10% pre-order discount before launch.
Lumines Arise has been on more radars recently since it dramatically opened Playstation’s June State of Play with an electric soundtrack and psychedelic visuals. Considering that it was the show opener for PlayStation’s megaphone of choice, it seems like there’s a large degree of confidence in this game’s future reception. Long-standing acclaim for the 2004 PSP original certainly doesn’t hurt, along with the largely positive reviews for the 2012 Vita installment Lumines: Electric Symphony and 2018’s remaster of the original. This remaster sits at Overwhelmingly Positive with almost 600 reviews on Steam and sports an 83 average score on Metacritic. The wait won’t be much longer until Lumines Arise launches November 11 and reveals if the series can add another quality entry to its lineup.
