Atari Announces Deal To Re-Release Five Ubisoft Titles, Including Child Of Eden and Cold Fear

Yesterday Atari and Ubisoft revealed that Atari has acquired the IP rights for five Ubisoft games with the intention of releasing them on modern systems. The games are Cold Fear, I Am Alive, Child of Eden, Grow Home, and Grow Up.

“Millions of players have experienced these worlds over the years, and this will open the door for long time players to revisit those memories while inviting new audiences to discover them for the first time,” said Deborah Papiernik, Vice President of New Business, in the press release revealing the news.

For those who aren’t familiar with these titles, Cold Fear is a 2005 survival horror game that came out unfortunately close to the paradigm-shifting Resident Evil 4, I Am Alive was a 2012 post-apocalyptic game with the most 2010s gray color palette imaginable, Child of Eden was a well-liked spiritual successor to the music-themed rail shooter Rez, and Grow Home and Grow Up were a pair of positively received physics-based platformers.

Beyond the inherent weirdness of reviving some of these, especially Cold Fear and I Am Alive, another noteworthy tidbit is that Atari will “explore opportunities to expand their reach through updated formats, new content, and extended distribution channels.” While this is pure speculation, their phrasing leaves one to wonder if Atari might be interested in following up on any of these with a sequel if they sell well enough—Cold Fear 2 confirmed? In all seriousness, it is always nice when games become more accessible, and while I Am Alive, Grow Home, Grow Up, and Cold Fear are all available on Steam, many of these aren’t on modern consoles, and Child of Eden is still trapped on its original platforms.
