Square Enix Announces New Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy Mobile Game

Video game publisher Square Enix has announced a new mobile game spin-off for the Final Fantasy franchise, titled Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy. The game is set in modern day Tokyo, and described as a “3 vs 3 Team Boss Battle Arena.”

Players will compete in teams of three to defeat giant boss characters before an opposing team gets the chance. The project is planned for release on iOS and Android in 2026 and will include a variety of playable characters from across the entire Final Fantasy series. Currently there are 10 characters confirmed, which include: Warrior of Light (Final Fantasy), Kain Highwind (Final Fantasy 4), Krile Mayer Baldesion (Final Fantasy 5) Terra Branford (Final Fantasy 6), Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy 7), Rinoa Heartily (Final Fantasy 8), Zidane Tribal (Final Fantasy 9), Lighting (Final Fantasy 13), Gaia (Final Fantasy 14), and Prompto Argentum (Final Fantasy 15).

The mobile game will feature full Japanese voice acting as these characters are summoned into the modern world. Each character will cover one of four possible fighting styles—ranged, melee, support, and agile—and will allow players to customize each character with various outfits.

According to Square Enix’s official website, the game’s storyline reads, “a giant crystal appears in the city of Tokyo. The blue-glowing crystal blended into daily life and became a familiar presence. However, those peaceful times came to a sudden end. Strange monsters appear from a mysterious, menacing energy polluting the crystal, driving humanity to despair. As terror dominates the city, armed warriors emerge, as if they were answering to a cry for help.”

A closed beta for Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy is scheduled to take place on Nov. 7-14. Players from Japan, Canada, and the United States will be eligible to partake, and can apply to join on the game’s official website
