Hollow Knight: Silksong Livestream Reveals September Release Date

Hollow Knight: Silksong Livestream Reveals September Release Date

On August 21, Hollow Knight developers Team Cherry put years of hype and speculation to rest with a livestream focused on their much-anticipated sequel Hollow Knight: Silksong. The livestream shared a short gameplay trailer and, finally, a release date of September 4.

Based on what was revealed in the trailer and the website, players can finally get their hands on Hollow Knight: Silksong in two weeks to fight as princess-protector Hornet against over 200 enemies and 40 bosses. The livestream was efficient with its time, sharing brief flashes of gameplay including fast-paced fights against enemies, mad dashes away from rising lava, and traversal across some beautiful hand-crafted landscapes. The video description also shares that Silksong will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass, which has been under the spotlight as of late due to a BDS boycott and critiques from industry veterans.

To call the mood around this reveal anything but incredibly excited might be understating the moment. Hollow Knight: Silksong may be the one of the few games besides Grand Theft Auto 6 to hold an almost-mythical status in the gaming space prior to an actual release. From the Game Awards to Summer Game Fest to the ongoing Gamescom, questions and speculations about Team Cherry’s sequel have flooded livestream chats for years now. In fairness, fans have been forced to be pretty patient with this one considering the last time it was demoed, prior to this year’s Gamescom, was in 2019.

The reception of Silksong’s 2017 predecessor, Hollow Knight, shows that anticipation for this game is more than just people buying into hype. Hollow Knight currently has an average score of 90 on Metacritic and sits at Overwhelming Positive on Steam with over 136K reviews. The game’s approach to exploration, difficult but engaging fights, stunning 2D artwork inside a ruined kingdom setting, and more have put the game in modern classic status for many players. Hollow Knight has left a lasting impression on games as a whole, and now players can see what the Australian team behind it has been cooking for over half a decade on September 4.
