The announcement shares that attendees can expect music from games like Baldur’s Gate 3, Everybody’s Gone To the Rapture, Assassin’s Creed, Journey, Cuphead, and Tomb Raider: Legend. Attendees will experience synchronized visuals, gameplay, and imagery along with the live music performance. Fortunately, people who can’t make it to London might be able to watch it somewhere else. BAFTA Games in Concert will tour around the UK and internationally in 2026, with more information to come later on the official site.
The concert will feature the BBC Concert Orchestra in a performance under the direction of composer and conductor Austin Wintory, who has worked on Journey, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, and this year’s Sword of the Sea, among other games. The announcement quotes Wintory saying “It’s often stated how solitary composing can be, so it’s an utterly thrilling opportunity to gather a big orchestra together, a gaggle of amazing composers and the audience for whom all it’s made! I feel very honoured to have been asked to help put together, and also conduct, this concert celebrating the immense spectrum of games music which has passed through the BAFTA halls the last couple of decades.”
Sharing a similarly positive sentiment on the event, BAFTA CEO Jane Milichip is quoted saying “Games scores capture the hearts and imaginations of millions across the globe. This concert, and the forthcoming international tour, are a brilliant way to extend the celebration of the BAFTA Games Awards and unite fans, artists, and industry figures.” The announcement then ends with a note that more special guests and game selections will be announced as the event draws closer.
BAFTA, also known as the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, has been hosting its own award show for games since 2004. Given the massive amount of works they’ve highlighted in the 20-plus years since, many of which have stellar soundtracks that people re-visit long after rolling credits (staring at you, Journey), there is good reason to be excited about this new live music offering.
