Cyberpunk 2077 Comes to Mac This Week

It’s been quite the turnaround for CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 after its notoriously troubled launch in 2020. Based on Mike Pondsmith’s classic tabletop RPG, the open world game has been continually tweaked and worked on since it came out, and really got over the hump with 2023’s Phantom Liberty expansion. And now CD Projekt Red is focused on getting the current version in front of as many players as possible. Last month the game launched for a Nintendo system for the first time, arriving for the Switch 2 on its release date. And now it’s about to find a new home on an unlikely platform: the Mac. Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition launches for Macs with Apple silicon this Thursday, July 17.

Ultimate Edition combines both the original game with Phantom Liberty, making it a one-stop Cyberpunk 2077 shop. It’s the same title given to last month’s Switch 2 version, which received pretty positive reviews when it came out. It also sounds like it’s been maximized for AirPods on Mac; the game supports Spatial Audio, and AirPods are set up with that as the standard option.

If you’re not sure if your Mac will be able to run the game (always a vexing situation for playing on computers), here are the stats you need to keep in mind. You’ll need an Apple silicon Mac with at least 16GB of unified memory. And for the optimal experience, your machine should be using macOS 15.5 or a later operating system. How do those specs compare to the current standards for an off-the-shelf Mac? Seriously, I’m asking, because I have no idea. But since the game’s five years old, runs on the Switch 2, and has always existed for last-gen consoles like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, I’m going to guess that the requirements on Mac aren’t extreme or especially high-end at this point.

Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition hits the Mac this Thursday, July 17. It’ll be available through the Mac App Store, Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG.com. If you’re an Apple loyalist wondering what’s up with this Cyberpunk game you’ve been hearing about for a few years now, here’s your chance to find out.
