PlayStation Confirms Ghost of Yotei Gameplay Deep Dive will Stream on Thursday July 10

On Thursday July 10, PlayStation will be holding a 20-minute gameplay deep dive for Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yōtei, the anticipated follow-up to 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima. This deep dive was previously announced during the company’s June State of Play without a set date.

According to a PlayStation.Blog post, the deep dive will be hosted by Sucker Punch’s creative directors, Jason Connel and Nate Fox. It will focus not just on the protagonist Astu’s story, but also new weapons, modes, and ways to “personalize your journey at the edge of Japan.” It will stream on PlayStation’s Twitch and YouTube channels at 5 p.m. ET / 2 p.m. PT. The timing feels right for a longer look at the upcoming game given that it launches on October 2 for the PlayStation 5.

Ghost of Yōtei takes place in the same universe in which players sliced down enemies as Ghost of Tsushima’s Jin, but set 300 years later. It is marketed as a standalone experience set in 1600s rural Japan, presumably meaning anyone can jump in without needing to play the previous series entry. Atsu, who will be played by Erika Ishii, is looking to make mincemeat of the outlaws who killed her family years earlier. On that quest for vengeance, players will travel across Northern Japan participating in katana battles, making allies, and, maybe most interestingly, trying sumi-e painting, according to the PlayStation store page.

Expect more than a few eyeballs on the deep dive. Ghost of Tsushima was well-received when it launched in July 2020, and currently sits at 87 average on Metacritic. It did well enough for PlayStation to back a director’s cut, which launched in August 2021, and made the leap from console to PC in May 2024. It landed a Very Positive rating on Steam with over 44K reviews. While PC players shouldn’t expect the sequel to be heading their way any time soon, considering how many PlayStation games are making that same leap nowadays, later is certainly not out of the question.
