Disney Twisted-Wonderland Anime Releasing This October

Just in time for Halloween, the upcoming anime adaptation of Disney Twisted-Wonderland is set for an October 29 release date. The show is based on Aniplex’s mobile gacha game of the same name, which features anime boys inspired by Disney villains. Its first season will be eight episodes and will premiere on Disney+.

The game follows a player-named character who is whisked away by a magic mirror to Night Raven College, where he meets the heads of the school’s seven dorms, each based around a different Disney villain. He then enrolls in classes as he searches for a way home. The game was created by Aniplex and Walt Disney Japan, with Yana Toboso, the creator of Black Butler, handling the script and character designs.

The show will be specifically pulling from the mobile game’s manga adaptations, across three seasons titled “Episode of Heartslabyul,” “Episode of Savanaclaw,” and “Episode of Octavinelle”—the Heartslabyul manga was four volumes, Savanaclaw was two, and Octavinelle was two. Each of these are named after the dorms from the game, with Heartslabyul referencing Alice in Wonderland’s Queen of Hearts, Savanaclaw tying into Scar from The Lion King, and Octavinelle alluding to Ursula from My Little Mermaid.

As for the anime’s staff, Takahiro Natori (Tokyo Mew Mew New) will handle series composition and chief direction, and Shin Katagai (Eyeshield 21) will be the director. Youichi Katou (Space Brothers) will be handling the script. Many of the game’s voice actors will return in their roles, such as Noriaki Sugiyama as Grim, Natsuki Hanae as Riddle Rosehearts, Seiichirō Yamashita as Ace Trappola, and more.
