The Entire Cast of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Will Return for Epic Netflix Anime Series

One of the most beloved cult classics of 2010s cinema is returning in a big way, as director Edgar Wright revealed today that not only is the Netflix anime adaptation of Scott Pilgrim moving forward, but that they’ve also managed to get the entire original cast of the 2010 film onboard to reprise their roles. And considering how many huge stars are featured in that ensemble cast, it is no small feat. Variety reports that the show has now been ordered to series, with all the following names returning: Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Ramona Flowers), Satya Bhabha (Matthew Patel), Kieran Culkin (Wallace Wells), Chris Evans (Lucas Lee), Anna Kendrick (Stacey Pilgrim), Brie Larson (Envy Adams), Alison Pill (Kim Pine), Aubrey Plaza (Julie Powers), Brandon Routh (Todd Ingram), Jason Schwartzman (Gideon Graves), Johnny Simmons (Young Neil), Mark Webber (Stephen Stills), Mae Whitman (Roxie), and Ellen Wong (Knives Chau). Wright, meanwhile, will serve as an executive producer on the series, while Scott Pilgrim comics creator Bryan Lee O’Malley will co-write and executive produce the anime series along with BenDavid Grabinski. It’s unclear if the story would be another adaptation of the events of O’Malley’s comic, or something entirely new.

“We’re getting the band back together!” said O’Malley and Grabinski in a statement. “Cera and Winstead, Bhabha, Culkin, Evans, Kendrick, Larson, Pill, Plaza, Routh, Schwartzman, Simmons, Webber, Whitman and Wong. A stellar cast, perfectly assembled by Edgar Wright. And, with Science SARU leading the phenomenal animation, we couldn’t ask for a better team for this adventure. We can’t wait for fans and newcomers alike to see what we and our partners at Science SARU have been cooking up. It’s going to be a wild ride.”

Looking back on 2010’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World in 2023, it may feel like the film has always been a beloved mainstay of pop culture, but it was actually a pretty significant box office flop on release, despite strong critical reviews. It may be that the film’s videogame-music aesthetic and blending of style and genre was a bit too odd for the average multiplex crowd at the time, but it didn’t take long for Scott Pilgrim to establish its cult among film geeks and the Extremely Online. Subsequent years have only increased the film’s popularity, bringing frequent tributes and a popular beat-em-up videogame. Chiptune pop band Anamanaguchi, who composed music for the videogame, will also reportedly provide original songs for the anime series, working on the score with Joseph Trapanese.
