New Astro Bot Themed Controller is Available for Preorder

If you, too, are bewitched by the charms of little robot Astro, now is your chance to get your hands on a controller modeled in their adorable likeness. A year after the limited run of the Astro Bot DualSense wireless controller, Sony is launching a “Joyful” version of the PS5 gamepad next month. The new controller will retail at $84.99 and be released on October 30, and is now available for preorder on the PlayStation Store.

Like its predecessor, the new Astro Bot gamepad is white with cobalt blue controller grips, and it features sci-fi engraved elements and light-blue accents. The crown jewel of the controller’s design, the touchpad, is equipped with cheerful Astro eyes that, unfortunately, are drawn onto the controller and don’t actually emote.

At the very least, accessories aren’t affected by the recent PlayStation price hike, so you’ll only have to pay the price of 12 duck sandwiches from my favorite spot in Chinatown if you want the controller that doesn’t blink.

If the previous version of the Astro Bot controller is any indication, the Joyful ones will sell out fast, and scalpers will hike the price up for when you decide you do want it after all a few months from now, so do with that information what you will.

If you’re looking for a new wireless controller for your PS5 but aren’t won over by Astro’s look, other available limited edition controllers include gamepads themed around Death Stranding 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ghost of Yotei, and PlayStation’s 30 year anniversary (my personal favorite). All of these controllers retail between $79.99 and $84.99, or approximately four Hollow Knight: Silksongs.
