Everything Announced During The 9/12 Nintendo Direct: A New Fire Emblem, Release Dates For Metroid Prime 4 And Hades 2, And More

This morning, Nintendo gave us a meaty 60-minute direct showing off the future of the Switch and Switch 2. Things kicked off with a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros. series, before delivering bigger announcements like Hades 2 and Metroid Prime 4‘s release dates, alongside news of the next Fire Emblem game. Let’s get into it.
New Fire Emblem Game Announced
A new colosseum-themed Fire Emblem was announced: Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. The cinematic trailer offers a glimpse at the series’ classic turn-based gameplay alongside cutscenes that hint at the cast’s motivations, including the protagonist, who wants to save their father and others who are out for revenge. At the end, we seem to see an older Sothis, a character from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, implying this game takes place in the same setting, which isn’t always true for entries in the series. Fortune’s Weave has a 2026 release window.
Hades 2 Gets Release Date
Hades 2 got a gorgeous animated trailer that showcased its protagonist, Melinoë, who is out to kill Cronos. The game is headed for the Switch 2 at 120 frames per second, and most notably, it got a September 25 release date, meaning this seems like the date the game will finally be coming out of Early Access.

Next Super Mario Movie Gets Title And Trailer
We got a first look at the newly titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, a sequel to the 2023 animated film from Nintendo and Illumination. The film will apparently be the focal point of Mario’s 40th anniversary. It will feature the same voice actors as its predecessor, including Chris Pratt as Mario and Jack Black as Bowser.
Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 Getting Re-Release

Additionally, it will feature 30 equippable rackets that add “Fever” powers on top of your existing character’s unique abilities, like the ability to clone yourself. It will have multiple single-player game modes, an adventure story mode where you play as baby versions of the characters, and feature ranked and casual online play. It’s coming to the Switch 2 on February 12, 2026.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder Gets Switch 2 Edition
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is getting a Switch 2 update that will bring Mario Party-style mini-games to the experience via a new mode called Bellabell Park. The Switch 2 edition also adds other single-player content that hasn’t been revealed yet. It’s coming in Spring 2026.

This year’s best 3D platformer is getting some more juice with a paid DLC, DK Island and Emerald Rush, which will take us to DK’s home turf and allow him to enter Void Kong’s employ in Emerald Rush. You gain in-game rewards for completing runs, including additional cosmetics and trophies. It launches today.
