Soulja Boy is Trying to Sell Video Game Consoles Again, this Time by Ripping Off Retroid Handheld

The rapper Soulja Boy is back on his grind by once again attempting to sell video game consoles despite dubious legal ability at best. This time around, he is selling a handheld console dubbed the “SouljaGame Flip,” which is very obviously a rebranded Retroid Pocket Flip 2. Superman would never.

Back in 2018, the rapper famously known for the song “Crank That” began his gaming venture under his SouljaGame brand, which started with the release of the SouljaGame Console and SouljaGame Handheld. These consoles were promptly pulled from stores after facing legal threats from Nintendo. Those original consoles were Chinese emulators sold under Soulja Boy branding, and this latest venture’s legality is just as nonexistent.

RetroDodo reached out to the team at Retroid for inquiry on the SouljaGame Flip being a clear dupe of their Retroid Pocket Flip 2, to which they responded, “I didn’t know about this. This is not any kind of official licensing deal. He does not have permission to rebrand our products and sell them as his own. The Retroid Pocket Flip 2 is patented in the U.S by ourselves.”

On Soulja Boy’s official website, there are currently four new consoles available for purchase: the SouljaGame Pro, SouljaGame Box, SouljaGame X, and SouljaGame Flip. The Flip is currently listed for a shocking $436.50 USD, which is more than double the Retroid Pocket Flip 2’s $209 price tag. The images of the two consoles are also clearly identical, making the fact that the rapper is reselling the Retroid handheld under a different name unquestionable.

His store also boasts various hair care products, AI smart glasses for $64, and Soulja Boy-branded vegan lip balm for some reason. It’s clear that in the years since the rapper’s musical heyday of the 2000s, he has fully transitioned into the very American pastime of online grifting. Rise and grind, as they say.
