Rogue and Gambit Are Coming To Marvel Rivals Season 5 and They’re Getting Married

Good news for fans of X-Men ’97 and Marvel Rivals: not only are Rogue and Gambit coming to the game alongside their voice actors from the animated show, but they’re also tying the knot!

NetEase revealed details about the fifth season of Marvel Rivals yesterday via a trailer and a developer commentary video. In the trailer, we see snippets of Rogue and Gambit’s wedding day, as their fellow mutant pals wish them the best—notably, there’s a Cyclops cameo, which is a big deal because he hasn’t been added to the game yet. We see stills of the two sticking together against the odds, Gambit very cutely being a wife guy. Then, as they’re about to exchange vows, bad stuff happens, as it tends to do.

The new season, fittingly titled “Love is a Battlefield,” will introduce Gambit when it drops this Friday, with Rogue presumably joining halfway through the season (in about a month). Both characters’ designs seem heavily inspired by their appearances in X-Men ’97, which makes sense because those designs are very good.

We also got a gameplay trailer for Gambit, who quite surprisingly is a Strategist (aka a healer/support)—I imagine most players are happy about this because the game has far more damage dealers than supports at the moment. He uses his cards to heal allies and dish out anti-heal debuffs on foes, utilizes his staff to bonk people, and has a dash for mobility. Meanwhile, his ultimate seems to provide a buff effect on allies.

There were also quite a few additional reveals about what’s coming to the game soon. There will be a new non-PVP lobby map, New York Times Square, where up to 100 players can hang out and spam emotes at one another. There is also going to be an all-new 18 vs. 18 player mode that will be added on November 27.

Balance changes were teased, and Vanguards like Hulk, The Thing, Penny Parker, and Captain America will be getting utility buffs, like Penny granting teammates healing if they stand on her webs. Buffs are coming to Wolverine and Spider-Man (boo!), and for Strategists, Loki and Cloak and Dagger are getting improvements.

We also got a glimpse of new cosmetics. The new Battle Pass got a trailer that revealed the 10 skins it will include, like Frank Castle (The Punisher) as Frankenstein’s monster, the Magus version of Adam Warlock, classic Wanda, and more.

Lastly, it was announced that every player will be receiving a free 2,500 units (the equivalent of $25 of in-game currency) for the game’s first anniversary alongside a legendary skin for Jeff the Landshark, where he’s dressed up as an adorable little businessman.
