Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Will Have Its First Playable Demo At Evo

It seems this year’s Evo will be quite crowded with upcoming tag fighters, because Arc System Works’ Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will make its playable debut at this year’s tournament. The demo will have six characters: Captain America, Ms. Marvel, Iron Man, Storm, Starlord, and Dr. Doom.

Additionally, there will also be a panel for the game held by Arc System Works and Marvel Games on Friday, August 1 at 11 pm ET, which will explain several of its central mechanics. This showcase will be streamed at youtube.com/@evoevents. The game’s Director, Kazuto “Pachi” Sekine, delivered the following statement in the blog post announcing the news:

“This is Sekine, Director of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. I’d like to express our thanks on behalf of the entire development team for the incredible response to the State of Play trailer. The game is still under development, but we’re really looking forward to sharing more in our Evo panel, and especially for fans to try it out for themselves with the very first trial version at the event. My hope is to “Assemble” with all of the players and create an amazing game together. We’re trying out many new things to offer a fresh experience. I can’t wait to hear your feedback and thoughts.”

For those out of the loop, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a 4v4 tag fighting game announced during Sony’s most recent State of Play. While it isn’t a new installment in the Marvel vs. Capcom series, it being a tag fighting game with Marvel heroes makes those comparisons unavoidable, and it will be interesting to see how it stacks up against those legendary games. The 4v4 feature is certainly one way it stands out, as it means there will be even more allies to call in for an assist.

As for what we’ve seen of the game in its reveal trailer, you can certainly tell it’s made by Arc System Works by its impressive visual presentation, whether it’s the flashy anime-style character designs or the sleek menus. In terms of gameplay, there are several comparisons to be drawn with the studio’s Guilty Gear Strive, such as the inclusion of a wall-break mechanic.

While it’s a little surprising to see a playable demo so soon after it was announced, this may indicate it may be closer to release than we expected. It’s currently set for a 2026 release on PC and PS5.
