Street Fighter 6′s Sagat Gets First Gameplay Trailer Ahead of August 5 Release

Last night, Capcom announced that Sagat will be coming to Street Fighter 6 on August 5 and dropped the first gameplay trailer (linked below) of this hulking Muay Thai practitioner absolutely beating the snot out of his opponents. Sagat will be the first character in the game’s third season of DLC, and will be followed by C. Viper (Autumn 2025), Alex (Early Spring 2026), and Ingrid (Late Spring 2026).

The trailer showcases all of his special moves, including his iconic low and high fireballs, the advancing Tiger Knee Crush, his Tiger Uppercut anti-air, and a new move, the Tiger Nexus. Tiger Nexus is a multi-stage move where he strikes with his knee and then follows up with either Mighty Tiger, Greedy Tiger, or Nova Tiger. Intuiting from the trailer, one of these seems to launch opponents for follow-up combos, one is an overhead, and one hits the opponent away and will presumably be safe on block.

One particularly unique element of the character is that his Level 2 Super Art has four follow-ups: a high damage ender, one that sets up air juggle combos, a side-switch option, and another that leaves Sagat close to the opponent to let him continue pressuring them.

But beyond his particular moves, perhaps what comes across most is just how brutal Sagat’s strikes are. As a perpetually angry man who’s still bitter about that time Ryu took his title as World Warrior in the original Street Fighter, his Muay Thai moves land with a crunchy impact, especially his Level 3 Super, where he seems to just break his opponent’s leg, Mortal Kombat style. His sheer physical size is also emphasized throughout the trailer, both in the massive range of his normal attacks and in how the camera captures him from a low angle during the cinematics.

While it’s impossible to tell how strong Sagat will be based on this small glimpse alone, characters with fireballs and invincible reversal specials have frequently been quite strong, although it’s yet to be seen if he can cancel his crouching medium kick into drive rush or perform throw loops like many of the best fighters in the game.

Sagat has appeared in every mainline Street Fighter game except III, so the previous announcement of his inclusion in Street Fighter 6 didn’t come as a surprise. The Muay Thai warrior will be released alongside the summer DLC outfits for Cammy, Luke, Chun-Li, Manon, Jamie, Kimberly, and A.K.I.
