GameCube’s Chibi-Robo! Comes to Nintendo Switch Online

GameCube’s Chibi-Robo! Comes to Nintendo Switch Online

Do you ever get so tired that you wish you could plug yourself into an electrical outlet to recharge? No? Okay, well you definitely wish you were doing little tasks inside a tastefully green house. And have I got news for you! Next week a new addition will be coming to the Switch 2’s Nintendo Switch Online Library: Chibi-Robo! for the GameCube.

On their YouTube channel, Nintendo posted a game trailer and release date for the new-old title; it will be available August 21, 2025, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 (and GameCube, obviously). Chibi-Robo! is now the fifth title that has been added to the Nintendo Switch Online GameCube library, following Super Mario Strikers, which came out last month, and F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, and Soulcalibur II, which were all available on the Switch 2’s launch day. Other titles coming soon to the GameCube library include Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi’s Mansion, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (which has commanded high prices on the secondary market for years now), and multiple Pokemon games.

If you aren’t acquainted with the Chibi-Robo series, the first installment, which originally came out in 2006, is a 3D action-platformer where you play as a little metal robot with an electrical plug for a tail. You’re tasked with helping the Sanderson family do chores around their very green house, gathering Happy Points in order to become the top-ranked Super Chibi-Robo. Despite the game’s cutesy presentation, not all is as it seems; the Sandersons are a dysfunctional family, and Chibi-Robo! will have you tackling serious themes like divorce, drug addiction, and financial difficulties. Despite its modest sales, the game enjoyed positive reception upon release, and ultimately spawned three sequels.

Nintendo Switch Online is a subscription service that grants players titular online functionality as well as access to a large collection of Nintendo titles from retro consoles. Its GameCube library is only available on the Switch 2, though. Other features include the Nintendo Music streaming service, Save Data Cloud, and cooler profile picture options than the default ones (this last one is very important to me personally). Nintendo Switch Online offers a seven-day free trial.
