One of the coolest developer-facing events in the games industry, Game Devs of Color Expo (GDoCExpo), is back for its tenth year, taking place online from September 16 to 19. The full schedule for the four-day conference was released today, including talks from industry talents such as Firaxis writer Emma Kidwell and Ivy Road communications director Jenny Windom. The complete list of speakers can be found here.
The event kicks off with a Direct on September 16 at 4pm EDT via the GDoCExpo YouTube channel. During the launch, more than 30 new games will be announced directly from the developers. Games from the Direct will be available on the Game Devs of Color Expo Steam Sale, which will be live in tandem with the event.
Game Devs of Color Expo 2025 tickets are currently on sale, and need-based tickets can be applied for through this form. In-person watch parties for the virtual event will be held in New York City and Pittsburgh, with more locations to be announced.
GDoCExpo is run by Game Devs of Color, a nonprofit organization founded in 2016 in New York City and run by volunteers. Game Devs of Color will be awarding up to $15,000 in grants to game creators of color during the event’s Grant Awards Ceremony with support from New York City (Mayor Eric Adams loves games for some reason). This will add to the over $400,000 Game Devs of Color has awarded since 2019. You can contribute to GDoC’s mission to amplify creators of color by donating to the organization.
In an industry that can often feel hostile and uncaring, organizations like Game Devs of Color are precious testaments to the unyielding strength and kindness of the game dev community. Be sure to check out this year’s expo!
