Everything Announced At Evo 2025: Marvel Tokon Beta, Character DLC, and More

The latest installment in the Evo tournament series wrapped up this weekend, and it was defined by continued dominance as several past tournament winners added another notch in their belts. And alongside the carnage, several fighting game studios took the chance to deliver updates for their respective series, resulting in new character announcements and the reveal of a particularly exciting beta. Let’s run down the biggest news of Evo 2025.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Gets September Beta

Arc System Works had plenty to announce at Evo, and one of the biggest reveals was that Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is getting a closed beta test on PlayStation 5 from September 5 through 7. It will feature six playable characters: Iron Man, Dr. Doom, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, Storm, and Captain America. As for modes, it will have online lobby matches, limited offline play, a spectator mode, and a training tutorial. Considering the game was just announced this past June, it’s exciting that many will be able to get hands-on with it so soon. You can sign up for the beta here (note: if you’re already a member of the PlayStation beta program, you’ll be registered automatically).

First Extended Gameplay Footage For Virtua Fighter 6

SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio dropped a trailer for the upcoming Virtua Fighter 6, showing off a much longer look at its fluid, grounded martial arts gameplay. Developed by the studio behind the Like a Dragon series, it will be the first entry in the series since Virtua Fighter 5 in 2006. Meanwhile, we also got a confirmation that the remastered version of that nearly 20-year-old fighting game, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage, will be coming to modern consoles with cross-play support on October 30. It came out on PC earlier this year and will be getting a free update alongside the console release.

C.Viper Teaser and New Summer Costumes for Street Fighter 6

We got our first look at the next character coming to Street Fighter 6 after Sagat, C. Viper, in the form of a cinematic trailer. She will be out sometime this Fall. Meanwhile, Capcom also released a trailer of the previously teased summer-themed outfits for Jamie, Luke, Cammy, A.K.I., Kimberly, and Chun-Li, which will come out alongside Sagat on August 5.

Guilty Gear Strive Shows First Gameplay of Lucy from Cyberpunk Edgerunners And Teases a “2.0” Version

After being announced as a DLC character for Guilty Gear Strive a decent while ago, we finally got gameplay footage of Lucy from Cyberpunk Edgerunners, and in typical Arc System Works fashion, the result was visually impressive. She seems to feature a unique hacking mechanic where time slows down as she selects from a menu. Additionally, we also got the soft announcement of a “2.0” version coming in 2026. This has led many to assume that this will be similar to Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2, which was a major update for Guilty Gear Xrd Rev. Additionally, if you pause the very end of this trailer, you can see the silhouette of what appears to be Robo-Ky with a katana and Jam Kuradoberi in a new outfit, implying these characters are coming with the 2.0 update next year.

Armored King Gets First Gameplay Trailer And Final Character Of Tekken 8 Season 2 Revealed, Miary Zo

Armored King, the next character coming to Tekken 8, got a high-octane trailer showing off his command grabs and very angry moveset. He will be out on October 13 for early access users and October 16 for everyone else. Meanwhile, the final character of the game’s second DLC season was also revealed: newcomer Miary Zo from Madagascar.

Other Announcements

Ken Masters from Street Fighter is coming to Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves sooner than we thought: he was released last night as part of a free update.

Capcom Fighting Collection 2 is getting a free update on August 7 that will have quality of life updates alongside new characters for Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper: Maki, Yun, Eagle, and Ingrid.
