Hellraiser Is Getting a Survival Horror Game

Hellraiser Is Getting a Survival Horror Game

Pinhead fans (Pinheadheads?) get ready: a new single-player, survival horror action game set in the universe of the Hellraiser franchise has been announced. Titled Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival, the game is being made by Saber Interactive and Boss Team Games.

The short minute and a half red band announcement trailer makes a strong first impression. After a saucy opening showing an intimate moment between lovers Aidan and Sunny, Sunny toys with the infamous Genesis Configuration puzzle box from the horror movie franchise and brings the iconic character Pinhead into the couple’s lives. What follows is a first-person gameplay montage of sick scenes, both visually and stomach-churningly, that flashes viewers with bodies being dissected, red filling what appears to be a bumping nightclub, brutal executions, and several humanoid and non-humanoid monsters. While there is no release date yet, the game can be wishlisted now on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

The official tagline says the game will follow Aidan, played by Strange Scaffold studio head Xalavier Nelson Jr., as he helps his girlfriend escape from a hellish abyss by unlocking the powers of the box that starts this horror show. It goes on to say “as Aidan, you’ll harness the box’s infernal abilities to survive your pact with the sinister Pinhead and battle against the twisted cult that worships him and the Cenobites. Fail, and your suffering will be legendary, even in Hell. We have such sights to show you…” Additionally, Pinhead will be reprised by Doug Bradley, who has terrified audiences as the horror villain in the Hellraiser movie series since the first film’s 1987 release.

Clive Barker is the creator of the Hellraiser series. After authoring the book behind the Hellraiser movie series, his 1986 novella The Hellbound Heart, he would go on to write and direct the first film. According to an announcement on PlayStation.Blog from Saber Interactive Chief Creative CEO Tim Willits, the studio has been “greatly privileged to consult with Clive Barker himself to make sure this new chapter in the Hellraiser storyline is authentic to the vision of his iconic Hellraiser films.” While Pinhead has made a video game appearance before in Dead by Daylight, this will be the first game set in the Hellraiser universe.
