Skate Reboot Gets A September Release Date For Its Early Access Launch

September continues to be a busy month for long-awaited games. EA’s anticipated Skate reboot, which they have chosen to stylize as skate., has finally received an early access release date of September 16 in a release date trailer.

This early access look will be free, but will require a reliable internet connection and an EA account to play. There is no offline mode. This caveat has been a consistent point of tension given previous Skate games have not been live-service games. skate. developer Full Circle previously rationalized the decision during an FAQ by saying “the game and city are designed to be a living, breathing massively multiplayer skateboarding sandbox that is always online and always evolving. You’ll see bigger things evolve, like changes to the city over time, as well as smaller things, like live events and other in-game activities. In order to deliver on our vision of a skateboarding world, the game will always require a live connection.”

The trailer itself showed off more footage of the game’s setting, the city San Vansterdam. Characters can be seen skating (and crashing) on roads, skyscraper rooftops, and more while pulling off a number of tricks. The trailer description also highlights improved Flick-It controls to allow for “full freedom” in the game world and reiterates that the game will be available on current and last gen consoles (PS4 and PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S), as well as on PC.

This latest iteration of EA’s franchise has been in the works for a while. skate. was first revealed to be in early development back in 2020, without its somewhat odd title at the time, during EA Play’s Digital Conference. It’s also being helmed by a new development studio, Full Circle, rather than the previous team in charge of the series, EA Black Box. skate. also had an Always-On Playtest in September 2024 that, similar to other live-service games, revealed the game would include microtransactions. Notably, items purchased during the playtest won’t transfer to the Early Access launch, but the money spent will be refunded to players according to the developers. Players won’t have to wait long to see what cosmetics and new tricks are waiting for them in skate. as its early access launch is less than a month away on September 16.
