Nightreign, the standalone multiplayer riff on Elden Ring, came out May 30 to a largely positive reception, with many impressed by how well it adapted the series’ action RPG gameplay to a co-op roguelike format. However, one issue some players had was finding the precise number of friends needed to play, as many people either game in large groups or alongside one other person, something that should be partially helped by the new Duo Expeditions.
The news comes after Bandai Namco’s announcement yesterday that Nightreign has already sold over 5 million copies, with Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC moving 10 million. The base game has now sold over 30 million, making it one of the most successful games in recent memory, signaling that we likely haven’t seen the last of this series. This is likely at least part of the reason why Sony acquired a 2.5% stake in the game’s publisher yesterday.
As for what developer FromSoftware has on the immediate horizon, they recently announced another multiplayer-focused title, The Duskbloods, which is coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch 2 for a planned 2026 release. Additionally, a report from MP1st claimed that the company is deep in development on another game, codenamed FMC, and that it may be playable as early as next year. If that proves true, it will be the first time the company has released multiple games (not counting DLC) in the same year in over a decade.
