Ranma ½ Season 2 Gets October 4 Release Date

It seems we won’t have to wait much longer to see the return of Ranma Saotome’s antics, as MAPPA’s Ranma ½ reboot is returning for its second season on October 4. Coming back roughly a year after its previous broadcast, the series will stream on Netflix immediately after its Japanese broadcast on Nippon TV, just as it did last time.

Based on the influential manga by industry legend Rumiko Takahashi, the latest adaptation of Ranma ½ ran for 12 episodes, significantly abbreviating many of the source material’s arcs while retaining its charm. The story follows Ranma Saotome, a teen martial artist who fell into a magical hot spring that causes them to change their biological sex when they touch hot or cold water, respectively. Meanwhile, they contend with their feelings for their karate expert fiancé, Akane, as the pair battle various suitors and other challenges.

The second season will see the return of much of its previous cast and staff, including Kounosuke Uda coming back as director, Kimiko Ueno handling series composition, and more. Wednesday Campanella will perform the second season’s new opening, “Wo Aini,” and Nishina will perform the ending song “Panda Girl.” As for the new cast members, Kaori Nazuka will play Ukyō Kuonji, Kazuhiko Inoue will play Happōsai, Ako Mayama will play Cologne, and Toshihiko Seki will play Mousse, resuming their role from the original anime series that aired over 30 years ago.

The Ranma ½ manga ran from 1987 to 1996, selling over 55 million copies to become one of the best-selling manga series of all time. In 1989, it received an anime adaptation that ran for 161 episodes. The manga and anime are frequently cited as one of the earliest series to gain a significant fan base in the United States, granting them a crucial role in the worldwide spread of these mediums.
