Grand Theft Auto VI’s Second Trailer Shows A Modern Vice City And Bonnie And Clyde-Style Heists

This morning, Rockstar Games released the second trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, showcasing this new version of Vice City, the game’s deuteragonists, and Stephen Root, the very first voice we hear, playing a scummy loan shark named Brian. In classic GTA fashion, the tease showcased plenty of sex and violence (in this case set to The Pointer Sisters’ “Hot Together”), but perhaps what stuck out most was the relationship between the game’s two leads, Jason and Lucia.
We see that Jason is stuck in the deeply unglamorous job of busting kneecaps to collect for Brian, going more or less nowhere as he drives down Vice City’s familiar streets. However, things may change when his partner Lucina finally gets out of prison. She has bigger plans, and while the trailer doesn’t give too much away, it very much seems like those plans involve Bonnie and Clyde-style high-profile robberies.
Beyond this, we saw more of this modern take on Vice City and its periphery, including sad convenience stores, waterfronts, and strip clubs. The game will be set across the state of Leonida, a very, very thinly veiled parody of Florida, which will presumably include all the low-hanging fruit that entails. Case in point, we saw a snippet of a commercial where a flag-waving gun store owner fires a heavy machine gun from a rooftop—while the trailer seemed slightly less juvenile than usual overall, it’s clear some of the series’ broad satire is here to stay.
