Remastered Final Fantasy XII Coming Out for PS4 In 2017

Final Fantasy developer Square Enix today announced a remastered version of Final Fantasy XII for the PS4, due out in 2017.

Titled Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, the game, originally released in 2006, will get a full HD resolution treatment ranging from the game’s battles to the cinematic cut scenes. Watch the game’s announcement trailer below to get a glimpse of the updated visuals.

The game’s background music has also been re-recorded to render it in 7.1 surround sound. However, purists and hardcore fans will have the option of switching on the old soundtrack whenever they wish. In addition, this version will introduce American audiences to the Zodiac Job System, a feature previously exclusive to an international version released in 2007.

This system includes 12 job boards (versus the original’s single board) all based on the 12 zodiac signs. These boards correspond to different character classes within the game. As players progress through the game, different squares on the board are unlocked and allow characters access to new abilities, weapons and armor.

The international version’s Trial Mode is also included. This mode allows the players’ party to fight through 100 stages of increased difficulty to gain experience and gil (money).

According to a Playstation blog post by the game’s producer Hiroaki Kato, new PS4 features include “Trophy support and Share functionality, auto-save, shortened loading times, overlaid location map and more.”
