Space Invaders—The Board Game Officially Launches on Kickstarter

Space Invaders—The Board Game has officially launched a campaign on Kickstarter.

Based on the 1978 arcade classic, Space Invaders—The Board Game commemorates 40 years of its namesake’s existence.

A press release details the gist of the proposed game as follows:

Combining today’s popular deck-building genre with a more traditional strategy board game, it allows 2-4 players to collect SPACE INVADERS cards and add them to their hands, while moving across the board and shooting enemies with their laser cannons. The game’s visual presentation and atmosphere are as close to the original arcade game as possible, creating a brilliant retro gaming experience.

Sounds like fans are in for a treat.

Early pledges at the $20 level and up will receive the first units of Space Invaders—The Board Game, and initial backers will also be awarded the opportunity to reserve the limited-edition Space Invaders art box, autographed by none other than Space Invaders creator Tomohiro Nishikado.

The Kickstarter campaign will conclude on June 15.
