Real-time strategy monolith Starcraft may be getting the modern HD treatment by developer Blizzard, according to Korean news site iNews24, translated by Kotaku.
iNews24 sources state that Blizzard will issue a formal announcement for the remaster in September with more details released at its annual BlizzCon event in November.
So far, the remaster is reported to include enhanced graphics and a new user interface while maintaining the original’s core gameplay.
The original Starcraft was released nearly two decades ago in 1998. It quickly became a cultural phenomenon and the template for real-time strategy games. Starcraft is still incredibly popular among certain circles, especially in South Korea, where it is regularly among the top ten most played games at popular net cafes.
A well-received sequel, Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty, was released in 2010 followed by two expansions, the last of which was released last November.
