News Of Yakuza 3 Remake Seems To Have Leaked On Studio’s Website

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (RGG), the team behind the Like a Dragon/Yakuza series, seems to have accidentally leaked news of their next game in the Yakuza series on their own website, hinting at an upcoming Yakuza Kiwami 3 announcement.

Specifically, a user on X spotted that the RGG website had a category for Yakuza Kiwami 3 under its news section earlier today. While this section has since been removed, at the time of publishing, the Google summary for the site still shows the name of the unannounced game “龍が如く極3,” which translates to Like A Dragon 3: Goku—based on the existing convention, this is what the remake would likely be titled in Japan. We’ve included an image of our search result below.

Yakuza 3 leak

The apparent leak comes ahead of the RGG Summit 2025 on September 23 at 11 PM ET, where the studio may officially reveal Kiwami 3, presumably alongside new information on their other upcoming games, Stranger Than Heaven and their untitled Virtua Fighter.

If the leak ends up being genuine, Yakuza Kiwami 3 will almost certainly be a remake of the third game in the series, Yakuza 3, which was originally released for the PS3 in 2009 in Japan and 2010 worldwide. With Yakuza Kiwami 1 and 2, RGG remade the first two games in its in-house Dragon Engine, which has powered the series from Yakuza 6 to the most recent Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.

While Yakuza 3 is already available on modern consoles via a remaster released in 2018 (JP) & 2019 (WW), out of the first three games in the series, it’s arguably the one that would most benefit from the remake treatment. To be frank, Yakuza 3’s combat is an absolute mess, especially when it comes to its infuriating boss fights, which are so annoying they’re likely to test even Kiryu Kazuma’s saintly patience. The game follows Kiryu as he runs an orphanage, and while it has several charming sections, its storytelling and central mystery could also use a bit of retouching as well.

The upcoming RGG Summit will be available below on September 23:
