Here’s What The Hero’s Path Looks Like After 200 Hours in Breath of the Wild
Today’s release of the first chapter of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild DLC is very exciting. With a whole slew of new modes and features, so far I can say that for me, the expansion price is totally worth it. Weirdly, one of the things I was looking forward to the most is the Hero’s Path, a tracking of all the distance covered during the player’s time in Breath of the Wild. I put enormous hours into the game upon its release, not just because I’m a fan of the series, but also because I was writing guides, so naturally, I was very curious to what that translated to visually. The tracking is limited to 200 hours of gameplay, after which the file starts erasing the game’s earliest steps. I put in 187 hours so far, with some Shrines and the final Ganon battle left to go. Here’s what that looks like:
I’m surprised! I thought the map would be one giant blur but instead it reveals some of my blind spots. I thought for sure I’d traveled blindly all over the Gerudo Desert on the back of a seal in one of those infamous sand storms, but the path actually seems linear. Maybe it doesn’t track during sand storms? At any rate, you can see where I’ve gone back to re-fight the Molduga at the Arbiter’s Grounds. I was also taken aback by the gap of space in the Tabantha Tundra. I guess I don’t like the snow. You can also see the spots in Faron and Akaala where I frequently track down rare ingredients for the best potions, meals, and armor upgrades in the game; they’re just a blur of green. Clearly I’ve also spent a lot of time in Hyrule Castle—and I haven’t even fought Ganon yet. Amusingly, the Lost Woods have only four solid paths but the neighboring Thyphlo Ruins is a complete, disoriented mess. You can also see a lot of places where I flew straight from a tower.
I can’t wait to see what this bad boy looks like after I spend more time with the DLC.
