Ubisoft is Banning Cheaters from The Division Forever

Tom Clancy’s The Division, an apocalyptic third-person shooter by game developer Ubisoft, is a game steeped in paranoia and mistrust. Paste contributor Reid McCarter stated in his review that the game “reinforces the basic untrustworthiness of other people, fostering the sort of wariness that means approaching strangers in a time of crisis with gun raised.”

Fitting, then, that the multiplayer community has been plagued by cheaters and hackers using unfair tactics against other players. According to Ubisoft, this will soon be a thing of the past.

In April, Ubisoft announced a new means of detection to target these cheating accounts and enforce a 14-day ban for first-time offenders.

In a new blog post today, Ubisoft says that tactic is no longer cutting it. The developer now promises to slap lifetime bans on any player caught cheating, first time or not.

According to Ubisoft, so far “actions were taken against a total of over 30,000 accounts, including 3,800 permanent bans.” The developers wrote:

We are committed to constantly improve your experience in the game, and this begins with ensuring a positive and fair environment free of noxious players willingly violating the rules. We will take all steps necessary to track down cheaters and make sure they cannot spoil your enjoyment of the game.
