Sony’s First 2024 State of Play Shows Off Death Stranding 2, Silent Hill 2, Ken Levine’s New Game, and More
Sony has lifted the curtains on some of what we can expect in the near future for PlayStation at their first State of Play event for 2024. The stream highlighted about 40 minutes of trailers and reveals, including a look at the Silent Hill 2 remake’s gameplay, a PS5/PC Port for Until Dawn, a deeper look into Death Stranding 2 officially subtitled On The Beach, and more. Here’s everything Sony shared from January 2024’s State of Play.
Stellar Blade
State of Play started off with a new and stylish action game from developer Shift Up called Stellar Blade. There are very heavy NieR: Automata vibes with this one. Thanks to its post-apocalyptic setting, flashy combat, and attractive protagonist, this is sure to keep fans of that vein of game happy, myself included. Stellar Blade releases April 26, 2024.
Sonic X Shadow Generations
Sonic Team is bringing the beloved Sonic Generations to the ninth generation of consoles, not only with the original game, but with an all new additional chapter starring Shadow the Hedgehog harking back to his self-titled 2005 game. High speeds will be sought when the game releases this Autumn.
Zenless Zone Zero
The new action-RPG from Hoyoverse is set to be in development for PlayStation 5. There’s a colorful world with rich character designs, which fans of Genshin Impact are sure to appreciate. Unfortunately there is not a release date as it is still in current development, but veterans of Hoyoverse’s titles already have the siphon strapped to their bank accounts.
Foamstars
Square Enix’s squeaky clean take on Splatoon is set to launch next week on PlayStation Plus, and got a little spotlight here at State of Play. The trailer shows off new characters and modes to expect going into its launch.
Dave the Diver
Indie-hit Dave the Diver is diving onto PlayStation this April. State of Play also announced that Godzilla will be making his appearance to scar players from the ocean in May 2024. Very cool to see independent developers collaborate with big names like Godzilla—really, when you think about it, it doesn’t get much bigger than Godzilla.
V Rising
The isometric action game will be coming to PlayStation 5 this year. Originally launching in early access on PC in 2022, fans are sure to be happy that the game has come so far after its initial strong start selling a million copies within just a week. Now PlayStation gets to experience that same vampiric glory.
